The Presidency, has broken its silence on a report circulating on social media that Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Abba Kyari, who tested positive for the coronavirus recently has been relieved of his post.
For a while now this has been the story circulating on social media, allegedly claiming that a statement purportedly signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, had announced Abba Kyari’s removal as he could no longer function in that capacity in view of his current battle with Coronavirus. The reports claimed that President Buhari had appointed immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, as his replacement.
Another version has it that a statement allegedly signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, surfaced online, announcing Abba Kyari’s purported sack. The statement announced the appointment of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Babagana Kingibe, as Abba Kyari’s successor.
All of these ‘statement’ have been dismissed as false by the presidency.
