Almost 5 weeks into the mandatory lockdown of Lagos State, as a way to curtail the spread of the Corona virus,it seems the cases of infected persons continues to rise,as Lagos now has the highest case of people testing positive for the virus.Lagos juste recorded 32 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infections in the state alone to 283,out of the 493 cases recorded across the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control which made this known on Friday night via its Twitter handle, said “As at 10:10 pm 17th April there are 493 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria,” adding that a total of 159 recoveries have been made ,while 17 deaths have been recorded, with 10 of the deaths being from Lagos state. As it stands,Lagos now has the highest Covid 19 incidents in the country, despite the fact that the state has been on lockdown for over two weeks now, one which was extended by the President Muhammadu Buhari for another two weeks, as part of measures to curb the spread of the pandemic in the state. Many have blamed the continued spread of the virus to the fact that movement of persons during the lockdown hasnt been controlled, with transporters of tricycles motor bikes and in some areas, buses still in operation, thus rendering useless the social distance advice, not to mention the disregard by many to wear face mask when going out, among many other reasons.
