Nigeria’s first interim President,Chief Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan GCFR,who headed the Intern National Government that succeeded General Ibrahim Babangida is dead.
Aged 85,Chief Shonekan passed on Tuesday January 11,2022, at the Evercare hospital in Lagos,where he was receiving medical care for an undisclosed ailment.
He made the list of those who held the reign of power in government after he was named the interim head of the Nigerian Government between August 26 and November 17 1993.Shonekan only stayed in office for a transitional period of three months before his administration was toppled by General Sani Abacha, who forcefully brought Nigeria back to military control on November 17, 1993.
Born in May 9, 1936 in Lagos, Nigeria,Ernest Shonekan and attended C.M.S grammar school ,after which he studied law at University of London in the United Kingdom in 1962.He also studied at Harvard Business School.
Later he worked as the chief executive of United African Company PLC (UAC).
He held the title of Abese of Egbaland from 1981,and was married to Margaret Shonekan and blessed with four Children: Korede , Adeboye , Kemi, Yele
