Less than two years after her widely publicised divorce from one of the world’s richest men, Jeff Bezos,CEO of AMAZON, with whom she was married for 25 years,ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, has married Seattle science teacher, Dan Jewett,a teacher in the school of her kids. The couple tied the knot this march, 2021.
The divorce settlement made MacKenzie among the richest people on Earth, currently holding a $53 billion fortune, according to Forbes, after she received a quarter of Bezos’ Amazon (AMZN) shares.
Dan Jewett acknowledged his marriage to Scott this weekend on the couple’s webpage for the Giving Pledge
He wrote,”I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others.I look forward to the growth and learning I have ahead as a part of this undertaking with MacKenzie.”
Mackenzie is described as a devoted philanthropist, something her new husband is said to be as well,as he is committed to the giving pledge, which she has made a commitment to,that involves giving away the majority of her wealth, a promise known as the Giving Pledge.
The Giving Pledge was created by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett in 2014, and the concept is relatively simple. The pledge is “an open invitation for billionaires, or those who would be if not for their giving, to publicly dedicate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy.”
MacKenzie did a remarkable act less than two months after finalizing her divorce from Jeff Bezos, when she signed The Giving Pledge, a commitment to give away the majority of her approximately $35 billion net worth.
Scott appears to be making good on her promise,as in July of 2020, she announced that she has already donated $1.7 billion of her fortune to 116 organizations, many of which are focused on causes related to racial, LGBTQ+, and gender equity; economic mobility; and public health.
In December, she donated $4.2 billion to 384 organizations.
MacKenzie stated on the Giving Pledge’s website that,
“My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty,”
The Wall Street Journal first reported the marriage Sunday.
Her Amazon biography also notes that Scott “lives in Seattle with her four children and her husband, Dan.”
