Nigeria’s reggae music legend, Majekodunmi Fasheke,whose stage name is Majek Fashek is dead. He died at the age of 57 on Monday June 1 ,2020 in an hospital inNew York,USA ,following a prolonged illness.Majek took the music world by storm in 1980s with his Prisoner of Conscience album, which contained the monster hit, ‘Send down the Rain’.Tge album was regarded by many critics as his best hit ever,bringing him to international limelight.
He did sojourn to the US on account of his break through this hit album and subsequently choose to make the US his home.While he made inroads in the business there,his career soon began to wane following his drug addiction problem. The drug addiction of the Rainmaker as Majek is also called got out of hand and he never was the same again.Attempts to rehabilitate him saw him back in Nigeria,with some of his colleagues rallying around him to help revive his music career.Somehow,he never got back to giving the best of what he was known for,great reggae music,a situation further implicated by due the consequences of his previous drug addiction.He was soon diagnose with a cancerous throat ailment,along with other health issues,all of which he battled until he he succumbed to the hands of death.He will surely be missed by his fans across the globe,many of who received the news of his passing in shock.
