The Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu pulled out of a Lagos State Governorship Debate tagged, “The Platform debate for Lagos governorship candidates”, so said the organizers of the debate on Sunday.
The moderator of the debate, Victor Oladokun, said the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, who is seeking re-election, pulled out of the debate, claiming he didn’t want to share the stage with an unnamed contestant.
The governor equally hinged his withdrawal from the debate on the shooting incident between some political supporters on saturday that took place in Surulere and that has since gone viral on social media.
Speaking through his spokesman, Governor Sanwo-Olu said he won’t want to share the same stage with a particular candidate whose supporters allegedly carried out the saturday attack on Surulere.
The viral video post had shown some political supporters of a political party firing gunshots at supporters of another party in the Surulere area of the state over the weekend.
This incident didnt sit well with Sanwo-Olu,and for this reason did he pull out of the debate.
Reacting to the allegation against his party, the PDP guber candidate,Olajide Adediran refuted the claim by the APC governor, saying his supporters won’t shoot at the people they are campaign to in Surulere,Lagos State, while advising all his supporters to desist from responding to violence.
Other participants at the debate include Olufunso Doherty of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Olajide Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
